Powering BPCL's Largest Mumbai Refinery Project
The ₹250 crore infrastructure project represents approximately 0.2% of Tata Power's ₹1,08,162.24 crore market capitalization and 0.4% of its ₹63,444.78 crore TTM revenue. Under the agreement, Tata Power will design and develop 110 kV connectivity to support BPCL's Petro Resid Fluidized Catalytic Cracking Unit (PRFCCU). This unit is the first of its kind in India and represents BPCL's second-largest project currently under execution, with a massive total project outlay of ₹14,203 crore.
The power infrastructure project is expected to reach completion in roughly 24 months, significantly strengthening the energy backbone of BPCL's refinery operations.
Strengthening Industrial Grid Infrastructure
- The PRFCCU project at Mumbai Refinery has a processing capacity of 3 million metric tonnes per annum
- Tata Power will provide 110 kV connectivity and associated design for the 90 MW industrial load
- Infrastructure development includes strengthening power connectivity and transmission in the Trombay area
- Project supports BPCL's journey towards higher-value product recovery and petrochemical diversification
- Investment contributes to the national vision of energy security and Aatmanirbhar Bharat
Long-term Strategic Network Expansion
This partnership aligns with Tata Power's long-term strategy to modernize Mumbai's power grid, which includes a planned 400 kV transmission facility at Trombay scheduled for development over the next five years. The company has been active in strategic alliances, having signed an MoU with Imperial College London on October 13, 2026, for energy transition research and a partnership with Norway's Ocean Sun on October 7, 2026, for membrane-based floating solar technology. These moves complement its existing 17.7 GW clean energy capacity and support anticipated electricity demand growth from large industrial consumers in Mumbai.
