Financial Performance
In Q1 FY27, Rico Auto Industries reported its highest-ever quarterly revenue of ₹755 crore, up from ₹543 crore in the corresponding quarter last year. This 39% year-on-year growth was supported by strong performance in the aluminum casting segment, which contributed 89% of consolidated turnover. However, the company reported a net loss of ₹3.59 crore compared to a profit of ₹16.7 crore in Q1 FY26.
Profitability was dampened by ₹24 crore in additional operating expenses, including ₹13 crore in air freight and sorting costs and a ₹10 crore impact from raw material price settlement lags, particularly in aluminum. EBITDA margin for the quarter stood at 4.6%.
Management Outlook
Management has expressed confidence in a strong recovery, revising its FY27 revenue target upward to ₹3,250 crore. They expect Q2 revenue to exceed ₹840 crore and anticipate reaching a quarterly run rate of ₹900 crore by Q4. The company is focused on recovering exceptional logistics costs from customers and narrowing the lag in raw material price pass-throughs, which currently affects 25% of the customer base.
Leadership projects EBITDA margins to return to the 10% trajectory by Q3 FY27 as air freight costs peak and subside. Long-term, the company aims to reach ₹4,000 crore in revenue through improved capacity utilization without requiring significant additional capital expenditure.
Business Overview and Expansion
The company is aggressively expanding its program pipeline, with 55 new projects in the launch phase for major global OEMs such as Toyota, BMW, and Ford. Rico is diversifying its portfolio to include components for ICE, hybrid, and electric vehicle platforms. The upcoming Hosur plant is strategically positioned to support hybrid and EV-related programs starting in September 2026.
Beyond automotive, the company is scaling its presence in the railway and defense sectors. In railways, RDSO approvals are progressing, while the defense business is focusing on computerized shooting ranges, with a target to supply 200 ranges in the current financial year.
Sector Dynamics
The automotive component industry is navigating a period of structural shifts toward electrification and hybridization. While production momentum remains constructive, the sector is currently grappling with logistical challenges and geopolitical developments. Global shipping route disruptions have extended ocean freight transit times from 5 to 9 weeks, forcing manufacturers like Rico Auto to utilize expensive air shipments to maintain supply continuity for single-source programs.
Furthermore, the industry faces inflationary pressures on labor costs and imported materials. Despite these headwinds, Indian manufacturers continue to see opportunities as global OEMs seek reliable partners for supply chain diversification and localized manufacturing solutions.
What to Watch
- Stabilization of air freight costs and transition back to normal sea freight cycles expected in Q3 FY27
- Successful commercialization of the Hosur facility and its impact on the hybrid and EV order book
- Completion of price settlement negotiations for raw materials and labor with domestic and overseas customers
- Progress on RDSO approvals for intricate railway components to drive diversification
- Receipt of ₹10 crore from the Haridwar land sale for planned debt repayment by December 2026
Management Quote
This air freight is an exceptional thing and mainly because it's taking almost 9 weeks for shipment from here to the U.S. And earlier, we should get the goods there in about 5 weeks' time. So this is a temporary phase that we had to go through for the new components that we are shipping overseas.
“We are confident we will be surpassing this and we will be achieving a revenue more than INR3,200 crores in FY 2027.”
“By next quarter, I think we'll be able to tell you as to how many have already agreed to whatever requests we have made. This is primarily on the oil and gas, all the imported materials like carbides, and also the general inflation.”
