Details of the MSEDCL Contract
The contract awarded by the Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL) involves the design, manufacture, supply, and commissioning of 2,000 Off-Grid DC Solar Photovoltaic Water Pumping Systems (SPWPS). These systems, ranging from 3HP to 7.5HP in capacity, will be deployed at farmer sites across Maharashtra. Beyond the initial setup, Captain Polyplast is responsible for a five-year period of repair and maintenance, including the integration of a Remote Monitoring System (RMS) to track performance.
The project is part of the 'Magel Tyala Saur Krushi Pump' Yojana under the PM KUSUM B scheme.
Business Significance and Strategic Growth
This order represents a significant milestone for Captain Polyplast, marking its largest single solar EPC win to date. It enhances the company's visibility in the government-driven renewable energy segment and strengthens its order book for the near term. The 60-day execution timeline from the issuance of Notice to Proceed (NTP) reflects a fast-track implementation schedule.
By securing repeat orders from major state utilities like MSEDCL, the company demonstrates its ability to scale operations within the solar water pumping niche, which is a high-priority segment under national sustainability initiatives.
Financial Performance and Market Position
Captain Polyplast reported an annual operating revenue of ₹417.27 crore with a net profit of ₹27.78 crore for the previous fiscal year. The company maintains a robust promoter holding of 68.79%. From a valuation perspective, the stock's TTM Price-to-Earnings (P/E) ratio of 13.49x sits below the industry average of 30.21x and the sector average of 52.94x.
While the company has seen a slight decline in annual net profit growth, its TTM revenue has reached ₹428.69 crore, supported by its diversification into solar EPC alongside its core micro-irrigation and plastic product manufacturing business.
Industry Tailwinds
- Strong policy support through the PM-KUSUM scheme aiming to de-dieselize the agricultural sector
- Growing demand for off-grid solar solutions in regions with limited reliable grid electricity
- Strategic shift toward solar EPC providing higher revenue visibility compared to traditional retail micro-irrigation
- In-house production capabilities at Rajkot and Kurnool supporting manufacturing efficiency
