Phase One Milestone at Bokaro Steel Complex

BMW Industries has hit a significant operational milestone with the commissioning of its Colour Coating Line in Bokaro, Jharkhand. This unit represents the first phase of a broader Greenfield Downstream Steel Complex. The company obtained the formal Consent to Operate on October 5, 2026, transitioning the facility from hot trials into commercial production.

The new line will manufacture colour-coated steel sheets and coils, primarily targeting the domestic Indian market. While the initial focus remains on local demand, management has indicated that the company may explore international market opportunities as production scales and market conditions permit.

Strategic Expansion and Infrastructure Growth

  • The project aligns with the ₹803.47 crore capital expenditure approved by the board in March 2025 for a 1.04 MTPA downstream complex
  • Recent expansion includes increasing pipes and tubes capacity from 600,000 MTPA to 732,000 MTPA in May 2026
  • The company previously inaugurated two new tube mills in May 2025, adding 60,000 MTPA to its Jamshedpur facility
  • A 1.28 MW rooftop solar plant was commissioned at the Jamshedpur site in 2025 as part of sustainability initiatives
  • Manufacturing footprint now spans multiple units across West Bengal and Jharkhand with a joint venture with SAIL
